Who runs this site?
Jason at POSUSA does. POSUSA sells, installs, supports and reviews point of sale systems, and this site is the part of the business that's only about getting started for free. POSUSA is an authorized Square reseller.
Why does this site exist?
Because a lot of small businesses pay for more POS than they need. A food truck, a weekend market stall or a new cafe can often run on a free plan with the phone or tablet they already own, and only pay when a customer pays by card. We'd rather you start there and upgrade when you've actually outgrown it.
So the pages here stick to the questions owners ask us: what's free, what costs money, what hardware you really need and when a paid plan is worth it. If free isn't right for your business, we'll say so.
How does this site make money?
Through partner referrals. When you sign up for a partner's product through a link on this site, that partner may pay POSUSA. It doesn't cost you anything extra, and it doesn't change what we recommend. The details, including who our current partner is, are on our partner disclosure page.
How do we check our pages?
Against the vendors' own docs. Plans, features, hardware and fees come from each vendor's official pricing pages, product pages and help center, not from other review sites. Vendors change their plans now and then, so the guides tell you where to confirm the current numbers before you sign up, and we update the page when something moves. Each guide shows who wrote it and when it was last updated.
